What does a good county government look like?

For starters, a good county government would explain to residents what makes up the County government. They would allow residents to not only meet their representatives but also know what a County Commissioner's job is. A County Commissioner is responsible for oversight of the entire county budget. They vote on how county dollars are spent for programs brought to the Board of Commissioners. Because of the political culture in Hudson County politics, we do not have a system where our Commissioners vote for projects with the good faith of our residents in mind. Our goal with our campaign is to give residents the power to decide who will advocate for issues on their behalf.

  • • Whether you’ve lived in Hudson County for 20 years or 2 years, EVERYONE deserves to stay in their homes. Working-class families are getting priced out as housing continues to get unaffordable.

    • As commissioner, we would push for DSA’s Right to Counsel initiative to the Board of Commissioners to vote on a county-wide Right to Counsel law. We want tenants across Hudson County to have access to legal representation when dealing with evictions.

    • Creating a Community Land Trust, which will create more nonprofit housing for low and moderate-income level families and residents. The county would partner with a housing nonprofit to purchase land that is specifically designated to build housing for low-income AND moderate-income families.

  • • Summers in Jersey City have become hotter and more humid with each year. We need to commit to improving air quality and reducing temperatures by planting more trees and expanding green areas.

    • We need to commit to pursuing cleaner energy and to start we need to say No to the NJ Transit Power Plant in Kearney.

    • We need to prioritize making Hudson County walkable to reduce the amount of vehicles that rely on fossil fuels.

  • • We need to end the stigma behind mental health. I’ve started therapy since the beginning of 2022 and haven’t looked back.

    • We need to remove cost barriers from accessing mental health resources. It is an investment we need to make for our people to help them survive.

It’s not a race it’s a marathon. We need to create county-wide centers that can provide resources to residents struggling with mental health crises. We need to create courses that are offered and are accessible to residents to equip them with the knowledge of how to encourage others to seek assistance, to spot any warning signs and what to do in those situations.

  • • Hudson County and Jersey City politics are notorious for not having accessible public announcements for key meetings, developments, or projects.

    • Our campaign intends to be transparent on every issue and to hold every governing entity in the county accountable as well.

    • If elected, our goal is to ensure every resident of Hudson County has the opportunity to let their voices be heard, and allow everyone regardless of any disability or ailment to have the chance to participate in any meeting by creating virtual/hybrid options.
